"can someone remind me why secession is not an option at this point? i mean let's be realistic, we live in a divided country. can't we have the breakaway republics of 'north-east-istan' and 'pacific-stan'? wouldn't the red states be happier without us?
we could still travel freely and trade freely with them, but can't we just leave? then you could have 3 countries:

Liberals need to fuck more

In casual conversation over the last decade or so I have been putting forth the theory that domination by cultural and religious conservatives is going to increase in coming generations simply by the fact that they are breeding faster.

Big and strong erection
Conservative religious families have four to six children. Liberal families who are concerned about population control and the environment might have two, one or none.

David Heim, associate editor of the Christian Century (a mainline liberal publication) cited these figures in a study conducted in the 1980s: conservative women average 2.54 children, moderates 2.27 and liberals 1.97.

What does that mean? Do the math! Conservative Christians, who are homeschooling their kids or sending them to Christian schools or trying to get creationism taught as science in their school districts, are going to increasingly dominate culture and politics in America.

If conservatives are giving birth at a rate that is 25% higher than liberals, what will that mean 20 years from now or 50 years from now?

These Christian children are not going to be exposed to a well-rounded public education. They are going to be taught a skewed view of American history, i.e. we were founded as a Christian nation—when in fact the early leaders of America were mostly deists, Unitarians, or held beliefs more similar to todayís mainline liberal denominations. The fanatical Christian conservative movement is actually a 20th century phenomenon and for them to stake some claim to the ideology and theology of early colonists is just plain wrong.

These Christian children are not going to be taught sound scientific methods. They are going to be taught that God created the heavens and earth in six literal days. Their entire world-view is going to be based on the myths of the Bible, not to mention the distorted pick and choose theologies of the modern evangelical movement.

For all their talk about abstinence these Christians are popping out babies left and right—mostly right, as in right-wing. They donít practice birth control, donít believe in abortion, and their children are going to be narrowly educated.

Whatís the answer? Liberals need to fuck more. Well, they probably already do fuck more, they just are more conscientious about using condoms, the patch, the pill or, when it is in the interest of the mother, considering abortion as an option.

If liberals donít start having more babies and raising them with good, sound, scientific, conscious, enlightened liberal values then we are doomed to go the way of the panda. Yes, the panda. The panda is a dying breed because they just arenít popping out enough offspring.

Of course Iím not really serious about liberals having more babies. I believe it is the responsibility of all humans to be economically and socially accountable by limiting the number of children we bring into the world.

But if the child-bearing trends continue generations ahead will only be able to find the liberals with the pandas—at the zoo.
